Winter Pairs 2019-2020 reach the Knockout stages

On behalf of The Winter Pairs “3 Amigos” (Mike, Richard and Alex), may we thank you for entering the Mixed Winter Pairs this year.

Taking the reins from Neil Chadwick was never going to be easy. Our aim was to bring a little social winter golf for our mixed pairs. To have 21 teams enter the competition was truly fantastic and shows how strong mixed golf can be at Bracken Ghyll.

Unfortunately, we have been drenched and blown around by several storms this winter which resulted in 3 rounds being cancelled meaning that the qualification was 4 rounds from 5 …… including the Joker round.

This weekend saw some great scores with 2 teams tied on 35 points and 2 tied on 32 points!

1st J. Gardiner & P. Gardiner 35pts /  J. Hodgson & A. Johnson 35pts

2nd J. Lloyds & S. Heathcote 32pts / S. Borrett & G. Faricy 32pts

As normal the top 8 pairs go through to the Knockout stages. Congratulations to our top 8 pairs ….. commiserations to those who did not qualify but we hope everyone will take part again next year.

As the 13 hole qualifying rounds seemed very popular we are going to run the knock-out stage over 13 holes as well.

Brief Rules are as follows:

  1. Matchplay Format over 13 holes
  2. The lowest player in the group will play from Scratch and the other players will calculate their shots by taking the lowest players handicap from theirs and then taking 75% of the remaining number.
  3. Shots to be taken by the relevant players tee SI – ladies from Red SI and Men from Yellow SI.
  4. 3rd hole to be played as Par 5 for Ladies and Par 4 for men – the lowest nett score wins the hole
  5. In the event of a tie, play will resume from the 1st Hole until a winner is decided (shots will be taken as normal based on relevant SI)

The draw has been published on the noticed board (and attached) including the date when each round needs to be played by. The first-round deadline is Sunday 29th March which should give everyone enough time to play before the clocks change and give us more daylight – 13 holes also helps!

Good luck in the next stages.

Best Regards

Mike, Richard and Alex
