Mental health is very much in people’s thoughts in these strange and difficult times.
MIND, a mental health charity, is the chosen charity of our Bracken Ghyll 2020/21 Club Captains, Duncan Hall and Shirin Borrett.
It is my wish to raise funds for MIND by playing as many holes as possible sometime around the summer solstice. I will undertake this challenge on Wednesday 30th June, a day relatively free of any competitive golf and, hopefully, with some decent weather!
In 2016, I played 103 holes and raised money for MacMillan Cancer Support and the club. This time it will be 100% for MIND.
Your support will be greatly appreciated and if you would like to donate, you can visit my ‘Just Giving’ page at:
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/WillStokerGolfChallenge
All donations will be added to the total funds raised by our Bracken Ghyll Club Captains.
In order to add some variety into my day, I’d also like to challenge any willing golfer to a 5 hole challenge; match play, strokes given, £10 if you lose a hole. Are there any takers out there?
Further details will be given in June closer to the big day.
My name is Will Stoker. I have been a member at Bracken Ghyll Golf Club since 2013 and I play off 11. I’ve been playing this great game for 51 years, a challenge in itself! As for this fund raiser…. I’m 100% up for it!
Thanking you in advance for your support for this very worthy cause!

Here are some interesting facts for you ……
- The 24 hour world record for the most number of holes played on foot is 420. This averages out at one hole every 3 and a half minutes. Hardly a ‘walk’ but this will not be challenged by my own efforts; I shall not be running anywhere!!
- The record for the most holes played in half a day while walking is 221, which is over 12 full rounds. Scott Holland set that record while playing the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs course in Canada, according to Guinness World Records. And in an effort to speed up his play, he used only one club the entire time – a seven iron.
I will NOT be trying to beat them but, with a bit of help from you, I hope I can manage more than my previous effort!
