| Leatherjackets are insect larvae which can cause immense damage to golf courses and greens. Treatment used to be by insecticides which are now banned. We have an increasing problem with leatherjackets on greens at the club which, if left unchecked, will see serious, long term deterioration on putting surfaces.
Rob and his team plan to deal with this by physically covering greens overnight. This draws the offenders out so that they can be swept away the next day.
To minimise impact on players this work will be undertaken in the evening on a rotational basis when most play will have completed. However, it is possible that players may encounter one covered green during their round and guidance from C&H is as follows:
IMPACT ON SCORING
If ‘Exceptionally Taking a Green Out of Play’ affects:
(1) Strokeplay competition and score for casual/general play purposes:
Where a green is taken out of play the hole is void and the player should record NP (Not Played) on the scorecard.
Please note the reason on the card and DO NOT RETURN SCORES USING THE APP. Instead return the card to the clubhouse and cards will be processed by the Committee.
(2) Matchplay:
Where a green has been taken out of play the stipulated round is reduced from 18 to 17 holes. That hole is ignored and strokes for handicap purposes are taken by reference to the stroke index of the holes played.
