CHANGE to 2 Penalty Areas – with more to come!

Following advice from the R&A we have changed two Penalty Areas from YELLOW to RED. This will speed up play and simplify relief procedures.

The Penalty Areas affected are (1) in front of the 18th tee and (2) the Pond to the right of the 8th Green.

By doing so we provide a third option in taking relief for a one stroke penalty. Rule 17 provides a fuller explanation but in summary,

YELLOW Penalty Areas provide two options for relief for a one stroke penalty
– stroke and distance relief: playing a ball from a relief area based on where the previous stroke was made, OR
– back – on – the – line relief: dropping a ball in a relief area based on a reference line going straight back from the hole through the point the ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area.

RED Penalty Areas provide a third option: the player may take Lateral Relief. Firstly, estimate the reference point where the original ball last crossed the red penalty area and then drop a ball in a relief area within two club lengths of that reference point.

Finally, in the near future we will also be changing both ponds on the 4th hole from Yellow to Red Penalty Areas. When completed the above relief options will apply.

Enjoy your Golf!
