| With effect from 2nd November you will have a new World Handicap System (WHS) Handicap Index (HI) this will REPLACE your existing CONGU Handicap. This is based on the average of your best 8 scores out of your last 20 qualifying scored back to 1st January 2018 (or on a averaging sliding scale if there are less than 20). It will be to one decimal place, for example 15.7 and is likely to be different to your current CONGU Handicap.
Your HI will be visible to those registered on the England Golf website in the week commencing 19th October. In due course it will also be accessible via our Club systems and via HowDidIDo.
POLITE REQUEST – Your Handicap Committee is very busy currently pulling all this together so please hold off from raising individual HI enquiries at present. Now that the course is non-qualifying, competition scores alone will not change your HI. There will be no changes to your HI unless intervention is necessary by the Handicap Committee.
So what do I do with my HI ?
I have attached a copy of the BGGC WHS Conversion Chart (a large weatherproof version has been installed at the club). The chart takes account the Course Slope Rating and adjusts your HI dependent on the Tee you play from. You will see that there are 4 separate Tee columns, White, Yellow, Blue (Seniors) and Red.
You simply focus on the Tee you will be playing from, and based on your HI you determine your Course Handicap. For example:
Mary, playing off Red Tees with HI of 20.4 results in a Course Handicap of 22.
John, playing off White Tees with a HI of 22.5 results in a Course Handicap of 24 whereas if he was playing of the Blue (Seniors) Tees his Course Handicap is 22.
